"Recent entries" index on archive page

Vote 0 Votes
My current design has a "recent entries" listing in the footer of every page of my blog. I'm using , and this works fine for the index and individual entry pages... but for the archive indexes (category and monthly), it only shows the most recent entries for that respective category or month. I know this is by design. However, I'm wondering if there's any way to override this behaviour. Many thanks!

  • Hi Michael,

In order to avoid the category and monthly context, you need to use the "OutOfContext" plugin available at:

Once you get and install the plugin, you could simply surround your mt:Entries loop with:

  • Hi Mihai,

Many thanks for the response. This works great for my monthly archives, though for some reason my category archives still only show the most recent entries for the current category. Any reasons why this would be?

    Many thanks,

  • Hi Michael,

    You're welcome!

That solution works for sure also for the category context.

Are you sure that you've updated the right mt:Entries loop?

Also, make sure to rebuild/republish the category archives.

  • Hi Mihai,

While exploring the issue further, I tried setting my category archives to publish statically rather than as part of a publish queue. When attempting to rebuild these archives, I get the error "Can't call method "id" on an undefined value". This doesn't happen if I remove the tags.

Any idea why this would be occurring? My monthly archive template is unaffected, but (barring a different FontAwesome icon on the page's header) the code is completely identical to that of my category archive template.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Michael,

I'm not convinced that this issue is caused by the OutOfContent plugin.

Instead of spending anymore time on this, why don't you create an index template for the recent entries widget and then include it using the mt:Include tag, file parameter?
